Brisbane dad convicted of hiring underage prostitute for son in Samui

He is believed to be the first person charged under child sex tourism laws introduced in 2010 and aimed at stopping Australian pedophiles from exploiting foreign children.

prostitution thailand 2The episode happened during a trip to the resort island of Koh Samui for a friend’s wedding in September 2012, theCourier Mail.

The father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, got drunk at the buck’s party and told his son he did not want him returning to Australia “without losing his virginity,” the Brisbane District Court heard.

He then paid a prostitute, inspected the room to make sure there were condoms and waited downstairs while his son had sex.

He then told the boy not to tell his mother, who was holidaying with them in Koh Samui.

The mother did find out, however, and made a formal complaint to police after an “acrimonious” marriage split.

The father later pleaded guilty to procuring a child to engage in sex outside Australia.

Yesterday his defence barrister said his client realised his behaviour was wrong and a psychologist treating him for depression had concluded there was no risk of reoffending.

The father was sentenced to 12 months in jail but released on a $2000, two-year good behaviour bond.
